An 18-year-old who was carrying a gun in Rotherhithe has been given an indefinite prison sentence.

Rosca Onya, of no fixed address, was in a minicab when police stopped the vehicle on William V Street last August.

Officers from Trident used a Taser gun on him after he failed to follow their requests.
He was found to be carrying a Glock 19 and nine rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Onya was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life and was found guilty in a Inner London Crown Court trial, which ended on February 1.

DCI Caroline Barker said: "The court has deemed this young man to be a danger to society and the indefinite sentence means he will not be able to apply for bail for four years.

"The public will be reassured that a man who took a dangerous firearm and a supply of ammunition into a public place has been put away. It is one more gun off the streets of London."
