It wasn't pretty but with just 11 games to go this season it's all about the points.

Luckless Stockport arrived at The Valley bottom of the league and knew they were in for another bad day when they found themselves two goals down after 10 minutes.

The Addicks had barely got started when a catastrophic mix-up in the Stockport box gave them the lead.

Kyel Reid whipped in a cross from the left, which Danny Swailes attempted to head away, but instead the ball rebounded off his defensive partner Paul Huntingdon and flew into the net.

In the tenth minute the home side doubled the lead.

Akpo Sodje rose to meet a Frazer Richardson cross and head home from the edge of the area.

For the rest of the game Charlton hardly stepped out of second gear. Substitute Deon Burton came closest to troubling the scoreboard but his effort was saved well by Owain Fon Williams.

Stockport battled but when their best chance well to Jabo Ibehre he fired harmlessly wide.

After the match, Charlton's first team coach Mark Kinsella said with Leeds failing to win at home to Brentford the result was key.

"At this stage in the season it's all about putting three points on the board and looking to the next game," he said.

"We weren't poor today. We played well in patches and passed the ball well. With Stockport everyone thinks we will win it easily but it's not going to happen. They are bottom and fighting for their lives."

Now the attention turns to the trip to Millwall next Saturday. It's a match Kinsella said he's parrticularly looking forward to.

"It's going to be a tough game with a big atmosphere," he said. "They are a big strong physical side. They came here and did a good job on us with the 4-4.

"I'm looking forward to it as a coach and for the players these are the games you want to be playing in."
