Sammy spotted?
Is this the Wharf's legendary Sammy The Seal?
The photograph was sent in by Dai Taylor of canarywharfphotography.com and taken from its studio near the Prospect Of Whitby pub in Wapping at the weekend.
Sammy is a regular sight for workers at Billingsgate Fish Market - where unsurprisingly he is a regular - and by Barclays staff outside of the Churchill Place headquarters.
The grey seal posed for this long distance shot when he heard a camera clicking.
Reports of lone seals being spotted go back as far as 2004 and are used as evidence of a recovering ecosystem in the Thames.

Think you'll find it's Simone the Seal.
Hello
I was out running at lunchtime today 1/2/12 and at approx 12.30 I spotted a seal swimming under the bridge at South Quay being followed by a heron.

We had a delightful couple of hours with Sammy the Seal.
He/she was at the far end of Discovery Dock, Canary Wharf. Swimming & playing around quite happily & at times stopping to observe us.
He hung around for quite a while showing us his very clever moves in the water. unfortunately we had no fish to throw him as a reward for showing us such tricks.
It was the first time we have seen him, we reluctantly said goodbye but was lucky enough to be able to watch him from our apartment for a little longer.
Hi there,
Was delighted to see a friendly seal yesterday when i was walking to back exit of canary wharf. he/she was carrying some kind of small black plastic cone in its mouth. so beautiful and innocent. we stared at each other for what seemed like a long time, but was only a couple of seconds. what a wonderful and strange thing to see amongst all the metal. made my day.

Just seen Sammy/Simone with what looked like a piece of pipe in its mouth. Or it might have been a swordfish.
