More US flights from London City?

British Airways will look at the possibility of creating routes to more American destinations from London City.

It comes after the successful launch of the business class-only New York route from the Docklands airport this year.

The airline's chief executive Willie Walsh said in an interview with Bloomberg that Boston and Washington were two possible destinations.

Walsh added: "City-New York is performing really well and bookings are very encouraging. We're considering more East Coast routes, but we need to be able to examine at least four months of operations before reaching a decision."

Walsh also said a route was proposed from City to Dubai refuelling in central Europe but the airline decided against the plan.

A spokeswoman for BA refused to rule out the launch of more US destinations but said no plans were in place.

She said: "We are constantly reviewing our flights."

However, any new route would need further substantial investment from the airline. It currently only has two aircraft capable of flying Transatlantic from City and they are both in use on the New York route.

Flights from City to New York's John F Kennedy International, which have to refuel at Shannon for outbound trips due to the short City Airport runway, began in September.

- Meanwhile, results from the BA Cityflyer crash landing last February have shown a parts manufacturer to be at fault.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch's report into the incident cited "poor surface finish during manufacture" leading to a "fatigue crack" as the cause for the problem.

Nobody was seriously injured in the incident, which saw the nose landing gear collapse on landing.
