Levi's opens in Canada Place mall

levi.JPGLevi's became the latest addition to Canary Wharf's retail collection when it opened its doors this morning in what it hopes will be a stroke of "jeanius".

The leisurewear store opened in Canada Place mall at 11am, and business was already brisk by lunchtime.

Although best known for its jeans range, particularly the iconic 501 brand, Levi's offers a lot more than hard-wearing denim these days.

The new store will kit customers out from top to toe, with items including underwear, shoes and the current season's campaign of checked shirts for sale.

Such a waste of space! With so many well-off people around, why is Canary Wharf group leasing these spaces for cheap shops? Why cannot we have Apple Store for example? It just doesnt make any sense why Canary Wharf would opt for an image equal to Stratford Centre!

Cheap shop? Levi's is hardly a charity shop. They've had the sort on brand identity Apple has only just managed to build for the last 30 years. You'll have to get your iPad somewhere else dear.

Where are the good shops? said:

We need a Selfridges and a Harvey Nichols here - or at least a House of Fraser. Waitrose isn't diverse enough and the fashion is very mumsy. Even Bluewater has a Joseph. Is the average income here still £100k?

With regard to Levi, it might seem mainstream but not everyone who shops in Canary Wharf works here. If it brings in revenue and supply work for the area then allow them the rental space, they must have researched the demographic they're aiming for.

I'm off to have a look today and reckon Levis could add some diversity to the retail in the area. However, I have to agree with the comments about wanting to see something more up-market. For what it's worth most of the 'high-end' shops around the Wharf shopping centres feel decidely high street. Although, that said, I do like having a Zara on the doorstep.

Surely one can appreciate that people have different taste and style. It should not matter how much you earn, and one should surely not judge others based on their earnings. Levi has been around for some time, and I assume that it has been for a reason.

Alexandra, we can see right through you. It's ok, you'll be able to afford a pair of levis soon.
