Woman raped in Surrey Quays on New Year's Day

policestock.jpgA 21-year-old woman was attacked and raped in Surrey Quays as she walked home early on New Year's Day.

The victim was attacked close to Toronto House, as she walked from Canada Water Underground station along Albion Channel, near Surrey Quays Road, between 6-6.45am.

She was grabbed from behind, her head covered with a jacket or material and punched to the back of the head, before being dragged into bushes where her clothing was ripped off and she was raped.

The victim escaped when the attack stopped.

The suspect is described as a black male, aged in his twenties to mid-thirties, of medium build, with a local accent, and was wearing a checked shirt.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching the description hanging around Canada Water Tube station in the early hours of New Year's Day.
