A beloved pet was killed and left on a neighbour's doorstep on the Island last month.

Black and white cat Disco disappeared from a property on East Ferry Road on December 5, prompting his owners to go door-to-door in search of information. They were shocked to find him dead at the front of another house on the street two days later.

The owner said that Disco's throat had been cut and 10cm at the top of its spine removed. A vet confirmed that the injuries could not have been sustained in an animal attack.

She said: "It was horrible. We were looking for him up to 4am, and knocking on neighbour's doors during the daytime. We found the cat on the neighbour's doorstep.

"Someone must have put him there because he couldn't have walked there with those injuries."

Police confirmed that the cat was discovered in the "front garden of a neighbour's house" with "a large cut to the side of his neck".

Anyone with information should call 0300 123 1212.

Despicable. The person who did this clearly has a mental problem and is worse than an animal. My condolences to the family. I hope they find the criminal.
