Sam Webb title fight date confirmed
Sam Webb will challenge for the British and Commonwealth light-middleweight title on March 26.
The Isle of Dogs-based boxer will fight current champion Anthony Small at York Hall in Bethnal Green in a Friday night show, promoted by Ricky Hatton, to be screened live by Sky TV.
Webb, 28, has lost just one of his 16 contests and earned the right to face Small when he beat Thomas McDonagh in a title eliminator last May, although McDonagh went on to challenge Small in November, when he was well beaten.
Small, also 28, has 24 professional bouts to his name, giving him the edge in experience over Webb. The Deptford-based boxer, nicknamed The Scream, is a stablemate of WBA World Heavyweight champion David Haye, with whom he regularly spars.
But Manchester Road resident Webb, who was back in the gym after Christmas to prepare for the biggest fight of his career, is determined to claim the title.
He said: "It's my dream to be British champion and I aim to make the most of this opportunity. Anthony is a good fighter but I think I've got the tools to beat him. To win would be my proudest moment."
