Jamie's Italian gets food guide approval

aa-jul30-oliver142.jpgJamie Oliver's chain of Italian restaurants has been given the seal of approval in the latest edition of the Hardens Restaurant Guide.

The food-lovers bible complimented the chef on the quality of the food at the mid-market restaurants, where the average spend is £30 a head.

Oliver opened a branch in Canary Wharf last August and it has proved to be hugely popular, with diners queueing late into the evening for a seat at the Churchill Place restaurant.

Guide co-founder Richard Harden said: "It may be because Jamie Oliver has researched well and chosen locations with a lack of mid-range dining options but he appears to have got it right, with people battering down his doors.

"His package has filled a real gap."

The guide is compiled from reports sent in by 8,000 diners across the country and is acknowledged as one of the most influential books of its kind.

Oliver's spokesman, Peter Berry, said: "Jamie will be thrilled, especially as the information has come from diners. It is very pleasing that people have enjoyed their visits."

The most popular dish has been the chicken cooked under a brick, while the prawn linguine also scored highly.

I love Jamie's recipes. It's especially good when I get one of his recipes and add a deep frying step because I'm so fat I can't see my feet.

I actually have the story behind that recipe. One day, Jamie was walking down the street, and one of his many enemies tried to kill him (again). They decided to bash his head in with a brick. Failing to succeed, they gave up and left him alone. Dizzy and suffering from shock, he thought "I think I'll make some chicken with this brick" and the meal was born.
