Jackett keen on new recruits for Millwall

The Millwall manager knows he needs more firepower to push the Lions into the play-off positions.

But knows he he can't compete in the transfer market with the likes of Leeds, Norwich and Southampton, who held Millwall to a 1-1 draw last Saturday.

With striker Gary Alexander ruled out for at least three months with a foot problem the need for reinforcements is crucial.

"We are looking to bring players in, there's no doubt about that," said Jackett. "We're in big company at the top of this league this year but for where we are we've developed quite nicely.

"I wouldn't say we haven't got anything in terms of backing or finance but there's some very big clubs in our division. But we'll run it right, we'll run it for us, for the size of club we are.

"I am hoping to sign players. I haven't necessarily got that magic lead, but we are in situation where we are actively looking.

"It's not easy getting centre-forwards, everybody's looking for them, and they are certainly not cheap."

Saturday's point leaves the Lions just outside the play-off places but they should have won the game. Lewis Grabban missed several good chances and it took a last-gasp equaliser from on-loan debutant Liam Trotter to rescue the draw. Jackett was pleased with the performance of the 21-year-old Ipswich player.

He said: "At times I've lacked a physical presence in midfield. He's got a little bit of what we haven't got in there. It's to his advantage because there's an opening for him.

"He showed a lot of good things and good composure for the goal. As the game went on he attacked more and more and got in and around the Southampton box, which is something we have lacked as well in midfield.

"His Millwall career is in front of him now. It's never a bad start to score and it really is what he does over the next month now in terms of his progress for us and his personal career."

Meanwhile, Millwall's youth team enjoyed a dramatic 5-4 win over Barnsley in the FA Youth Cup last night.

Kiernan Hughes-Mason hit a last minute goal to give the Lions youngsters the win at The Den.
