A return to the world of work
By Jim Fitzpatrick

Happy New Year and all the best for 2010. This is my first week back after the Christmas break and my operation. Thanks to everyone who sent get well wishes.
I'm only doing part-time this week, but have made a good start back, and my team has dealt with most of the business while I've been absent.
Interestingly, the advice surgery I couldn't do on December 18 didn't happen, as constituents cancelled on hearing I wouldn't be there personally.
I wonder how the constituents of other MPs who don't do regular surgeries would react?
Mudchute Farm was the venue for the Christmas lunch for my team.
We had a great time and heartily recommend the Mudchute Kitchen as a venue for lunch anytime. Good to see it is serving its own food again after the temporary suspension.
Not long till the General Election. No, I'm not privy to the date, but it must happen within the next few months. Wow. I hope you all don't get too bored, but there are serious issues at stake.
One of the treats of my recuperation while being looked after by my wife Sheila (a doctor) was watching The West Wing, again - series four, five, six and nearly seven! What a great show. 'Important people' walking briskly along the corridors of power, talking about Very Important Matters. Not an advice surgery in sight!
