Making a case for connectivity
By John Biggs

Another year draws to an end giving me an opportunity to set out my priorities for next year. My main focus for 2010 is to make the case for east London's connectivity to enable it to benefit from opportunities elsewhere, and to grow within.
London must climb out of the economic hole, and east London is key.
This means better connecting east London to south London - more work on river crossings, the Blackwall Tunnel, the East London Line and the Jubilee Line.
It also means connecting east London to central and west London - better underground services, reduced weekend closures, and pushing the Mayor to get tough with contractors.
I'll also be working on technical stuff too, like the countdown system at bus stops that tells you when the next bus is coming. Ken Livingstone promised east London would be priority for the new technology, and I will push Boris to keep to this.
East London also needs to be prepared for the digital age and I am working towards getting good levels of digital connectivity. This is vital for east London's economy and competitive advantage for local businesses.
My work will still continue on the Olympics, particularly the legacy benefits, regeneration and holding the Mayor to account.
I wish readers a good break and all the best for 2010.
