Hines goal to make up for Cole's West Ham absence

westham.jpgZavon Hines is ready to step into the breach should Carlton Cole's knee injury keep him out of the West Ham team.

Hines came on as a half-time substitute for the England striker in last Saturday's 5-3 win over Burnley and Cole's knee injury makes him a doubt for this Saturday's visit of Manchester United.

But Hines has no fears about facing United's star-studded defence should the need arise.

He said: "Definitely. It doesn't matter who you play. When Arsenal came here we were really up for it and came back from 2-0 down. I'm happy to take on anyone.

"Every time I come on I feel happy because not a lot of people get into my position. Playing for West Ham is a big thing for me and every time I play I get more confidence and I'm just trying to do my best."

Hines admitted he's learning a lot from the likes of Cole and Guillermo Franco, who have both impressed this season.

He said: "It's good, they're both smart players. They're both different in a lot of ways and are good at what they do. Learning from them helps my game a lot."

The 20-year-old's pace caused Burnley's back four problems, resulting in Steven Caldwell's sending off when the defender hauled Hines back as he was breaking towards goal. Hines was disappointed to be denied the scoring chance.

He said: "Yeah, as a striker I always want to score. When you score you get a lot more confidence."

He'll be hoping to add to his two goals this season, and he admitted the Irons need to tighten up at the back after conceding three both their last two games.

He said: "Obviously, you'd like to keep a clean sheet but towards the end we just switched off a bit but it's something we're going to work on."
