Christmas cards with a difference at Wharf gallery

postcards142.JPGWith Christmas fast approaching and the pressure mounting to find something original to give a loved one a Canary Wharf store has come up with something a little different.

Frontispiece Gallery, in Canada Place mall, has a range of war-themed postcards, many of which also have a Christmas theme, from the early 20th Century.

Items include tinted French cards, humorous ones on the theme of being back in Britain and even one of Adolf Hitler dreaming of a White Christmas, where he's not being driven barmy by the Red Army.

postcards480.JPGProprietor Reg Beer explained the significance of the cards.

He said: "These are all genuine postcards produced during the early years of the century and the Second World War. They are quite unusual.

"I particularly like the 'take me back to dear old Blighty' ones, They are very appropriate at the moment considering how many of our troops are serving abroad now."

The postcards are available, framed and mounted, from Frontispiece Gallery. Contact the store on 020 7363 6336 for details.
