Millwall 4 AFC Wimbledon 1

MillwallLOGO142.jpgMillwall booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over AFC Wimbledon at The Den last night.

Watched by newly-crowned world heavyweight champion - a big Millwall fan - goals from Neil Harris, Danny Schofield and a Jason Price brace saw the League One side home.

Kenny Jackett was able to name an unchanged side for the fourth consecutive game and it showed as Millwall produced some good football to keep the crowd warm on a cold evening.

But it wasn't all plain sailing for the home side with the non-league outfit producing a redoubtable defensive performance to keep the score at 0-0 at the half-time interval.

It took the intervention of Harris, who has been in prime form all season, to break the deadlock in the 48th minute when he latched onto a Steve Morison through ball to fire a left-foot shot past Dons keeper James Pullen.

Wimbledon kept plugging away and Jon Main almost equalised two minutes later with only Tony Craig's block preventing the goal.

Pullen then produced a superb save to deny Jimmy Abdou, whose deflected shot looked set for the top corner.

Millwall doubled their lead on 71 minutes when Price, on as a substitute for Morison, swept the ball home after Wimbledon failed to clear a Chris Hackett free-kick.

But the visitors hit back on 80 minutes when Lewis Taylor scored with an angled drive into the bottom corner, causing some in the crowd to fear an uncomfortable last few minutes.

But Schofield restored the two-goal advantage five minutes later when he scored a superb solo goal.

He was involved in Millwall's fourth when he found Price with an excellent pass three minutes from time the striker to slot home his second.

Millwall will face non-league opposition in the second round when they travel to Staines Town for what will be another tricky tie.
