Charlton secured their second home win in a row and maintained their unbeaten record at The Valley with a 4-2 win over promotion rivals Bristol Rovers.

The Addicks took an early lead courtesy of a goal from David Mooney who slotted in his second goal in successive home games from close range in the fourth minute.

Deon Burton then scored from the spot in the 17th minute following a foul from Pat Baldwin who was judged to have bundled Miguel Llera over in the box.

This was Burton's eighth goal of the season but the visitors were far from happy with the referee's decision.

Rovers began their fightback late in the first-half via a penalty from Jeff Hughes after Christian Dailly was punished for pulling the shirt of Jo Kuffour.

Much like Charlton's spot-kick the decision was far from certain.

With the wind at their backs the Pirates came out fighting in the second-half and the Addicks looked like they were in deep water when Chris Lines headed the visitors level 11 minutes after the re-start.

Charlton remained resilient despite Rover's onslaught and regained the lead through captain Nicky Bailey who bundled home a rebound after Mooney's header thumped the underside of the bar in the 68th minute.

Substitute Akpo Sodje sealed the win and ended Rovers thoughts of another fight back when he scored from close range with four minutes remaining.

Despite a nervy second-half performance Charlton have nine goals in the their last two home games, but face a tough encounter away at struggling Brighton next Tuesday.
