Olympic bosses agree to scrap Greenwich venue
The organisers of the London Olympics have confirmed today they will not be building a £40million temporary venue next to The O2 for the Games.
Instead the two sports which would have been housed there, badminton and rhythmic gymnastics, will be held at Wembley Arena in 2012.
The Olympic Board made the announcement this afternoon after deciding it was the best option to save money.
The proposal is subject to the approval of the two sports' governing bodies and that of the International Olympic Committee.
Ratification of the proposal should be finalised by the IOC in December.
The decision means shooting and archery events will be held at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, as originally planned. There had been fears the sports might have been moved to Barking as an alternative way of saving money.
