Dodgy heading to Canary Wharf

In the summer of 1995 it was the song you could not escape. Staying Out For The Summer by Dodgy evokes memories of sunny days, festivals and a Brit Pop explosion.
Dodgy were at the forefront of the new wave, following up the big summer hit with Good Enough.
But in the following years the three-piece from Birmingham failed to sustain those heights.
So are they sick of being reminded about those good times?
Drummer Matt Priest said: "No way. I would have gone into the wrong game if I thought like that.
"One of the main reasons you write songs is in the hope they are remembered fondly.
"We knew Staying Out For The Summer was a cracking song but we never thought it would mean so much to so many.
"It's been 14 years, so you expect people to forget about it but the memories have become more golden as the number of years has grown."
This month Dodgy will offer the Canary Wharf population the chance to hear those songs again during an acoustic session at the East Wintergarden.
It is part of a comeback tour which began a decade after the band split, and follows a glorious return to the stage at Glastonbury this year.
The 1998 break-up was a sour point and was the beginning of a decade-long silence between Matt and his friend and Dodgy frontman Nigel Clark.
He said: "It went a bit pear shaped. The success of Good Enough and the album threw the lead singer and he left the band.
"We had another singer but it was never the same chemistry and I went on to play with a number of other bands like The Lightning Seeds."
Ultimately it took tragedy to reform the band.
Matt said: "We had a lighting engineer who died from a brain tumour. It was always his wish we got back together.
"We met at his testimonial and that gave us the idea. Time is a great healer and we had forgotten the reasons we split up.
"If you're a musician who was in a great band there's no reason not to play again."
Dodgy will be supported at their gig by Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys.
