It was a night for Charlton's young players to remember as goals from Scott Wagstaff and Tamer Tuna helped Charlton overcome Barnet.

There was just a small crowd for Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round match but those who were there saw a professional display from the Addicks who ran out 4-1 winners.

It took 10 minutes for Charlton to create their first chance in the Tuesday night match at The Valley when Izale McLeod's shot from the edge of the area was deflected narrowly wide after a good pass from Chris Solly.

However, just a minute later it was Barnet who took the lead, thanks in part to their former midfielder Nicky Bailey.

The Addicks captain dithered on a clearance from a corner and it was blocked before falling to John O'Flynn who drove home through a crowded goalline.

It took just a minute for Bailey to atone as he teed up McLeod for the equaliser, pulling back for the former MK Dons striker whose shot was deflected past keeper Jake Cole.

Charlton had chances to increase the lead, most notably when McLeod went through on goal but keeper Cole came out well to block.

Four minutes before half time the Addicks took the lead when a Therry Racon shot blocked but the ball for kindly for Tuna who placed a low shot neatly past Cole.

The second half saw Charlton enjoy the majority of possession but struggle to make many clear cut chances.

It was Barnet who had the best chance of the opening exchanges when keeper Rob Elliot tipped a shot from Yannick Bolasie over.

Charlton were restricted to shooting from distance, with both a Bailey long range effort and substitute Jonjo Shelvey's free kick flying harmlessly over.

Next to tee up a free-kick was Bailey after a foul on McLeod 30 yards out.

This time result was spectacular with the captain's unstoppable effort flying into the top corner to put Charlton out of reach with 15 minutes to go.

At the other end, substitute Yado Mambo thwarted Jake Hyde's attempts to get on the scoresheet by clearing well when the Barnet player had the goal at his mercy.

Charlton were still in search of more goals and with just five minutes left McLeod broke free on the right and crossed well for Shelvey who juggled the ball round the Barnet defence before a goalbound effort was bravely blocked by the head of Ismail Yakubu.

Another through ball from McLeod a minute later providing the icing on the cake for
Charlton as he released Wagstaff who fired a super shot from 25 yards out which went in off the bar to put the Addicks through to the next round.
