Anti-social behaviour is number one issue
By Jim Fitzpatrick

Over the past year or so, I've held a number of coffee mornings on Saturdays, to give local people an opportunity to voice their concerns and exchange ideas on crime and anti-social behaviour.
The decision to organise such events stems from the large amount of casework I receive in respect of these kind of problems.
It is the number one issue of concern and comes to me during my weekly Saturday door-knocking sessions, incidental encounters on the streets, by email, letter and fax, and during my Friday evening advice surgeries.
I also invite along the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, which means people can speak directly with the police.
The specific focus on crime and anti-social behaviour means that any general problem in a neighbourhood can be picked up on when a number of individuals voice the same experience.
We all know that being on the receiving end of a criminal or anti-social act is one of the most traumatic things you can go through.
I understood this and it also helped me work out the best way to provide a comfortable, secure environment in which people could talk about what they'd been through.
I hope to be able to hold more of these events. Judging by the response from local people, they are well-regarded and popular.

Isn't he under investigation for misuse of public money?
tut tut.
Whats he on about popular?
He's never seen on his patch. He seems to be busy off in some field somewhere as farming minister.
How can he after 12 years only now make this is number one priority?
In some areas of Poplar and Limehouse crime has gone up by 40% in the last year alone!
Labour have lost the plot over law and order.
