Millwall 0 Yeovil Town 0

MillwallLOGO142.jpgKenny Jackett was left frustrated as his Millwall side were held to a goalless draw by a combative Yeovil side last night.

The Lions enjoyed plenty of possession but lacked the cutting edge to breach the visitors defences and could even have lost the game had the woodwork not saved them on two occasions.

Millwall's best first half chance fell to Steve Morison who saw a looping header bounce off the top of the bar to safety, but apart from that they created little going forward, while Yeovil always looked dangerous on the break.

In a competitive encounter, which saw eight players booked, there was a particularly nasty moment in the 34th minute when Yeovil striker Sam Williams appeared to elbow home keeper David Forde in the face as he challenged for a through ball.

The Irishman reacted by pushing the forward before having a bandage applied to what turned out to be a deep cut above his eye. Both players were booked for the incident.

Jackett brought on Gary Alexander at half-time to pep up his attack and the bustling striker was involved in most of Millwall's best moments of the second period.

But it was Yeovil who almost took the lead when Shaun MacDonald fired a terrific right foot shot from 25 yards that Forde tipped onto the bar.

And two minutes later JP Kalala saw a 30 yard effort beat Forde all ends up only to crash back off the upright.

That served to fire up the sparse home crowd and their demands for more positive play from their team seemed to serve only to unsettle the Lions.

Too often balls were miscontrolled or crosses overhit, increasing the sense of frustration sweeping around The Den.

Former Yeovil midfielder Danny Schofield was introduced in the 71st minute and he almost scored with his first shot, swivelling in the box to shoot goalward only to see his effort go wide.

Another controversial moment arrived in the 73rd minute when Alexander took out Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy as he leapt to catch the ball.

The goalie crashed heavily to the ground and the incident sparked a mass brawl involving all the outfield players on the pitch.

Alexander was fortunate only to be booked for the foul. On another day he might have seen red.

As it was, the big forward stayed on and almost snatched it for his team on 81 minutes when his snap shot from 12 yards , which looked destined for the bottom corner, was well saved by McCarthy diving to his left to cling on to the ball.

Alexander was growing more influential, which will hearten Jackett, and he saw a header drift just wide two minutes later.

Despite five added minutes neither side could snatch victory and Millwall had to console themselves with a point. To be fair to Yeovil, they did not come just to hold out for a draw and they deserved to take something from the game.

Jackett was disappointed after the game.

He said: "We didn't do enough going forward. We can do a lot better than that but we did create some good chances.

"The keeper made a good save from Gary's volley low down and held it as well. And we hit the woodwork, but the chances we had were few and far between and you have to be able to finish them.

"It was a frustrating day and it was hard to see where the spark was going to come from."
