Gillingham 2 Millwall 0

MillwallLOGO142.jpgMillwall's stuttering recent form continued as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Gillingham.

The Lions injury-ravaged squad found it hard to contain an ebullient Gills side and goals from Andy Barcham and Curtis Weston meant another defeat for Kenny Jackett's men.

The injury jinx struck again with Neil Harris, returning after recovering from a thigh strain, and new signing James Henry both hobbling off.

Things got off to a bad start when Barcham opened the scoring after just six minutes. His piledriver shot from outside the box beating David Forde all ends up.

Millwall did create chances with Harris and Henry almost getting on the scoresheet.

But it was former Millwall man Weston who scored next when he hit a low shot to double the home side's advantage five minutes before half-time.

Steve Morison nearly pulled one back for the visitors right at the end of the half but saw his effort saved by Simon Royce.

Millwall had a penalty shout turned down in the 65th minute when Mark Bentley appeared to handle the ball but the referee ignored the appeal.

The Lions were then reduced to 10 men when, having used all their substitutes, Henry pulled up with a hamstring pull and had to leave the field.

Gillingham looked likely to add to their tally but Millwall's depleted team bravely held out to keep the score respectable.

Jackett was understandably downbeat about the result.

He said: "I'm disappointed with the performance, disappointed with the result. A lot of people either just coming into the club or just coming back from injury, disrupted team, no rhythm to it whatsoever.

"People looking then for their confidence. They're not excuses, they're facts and things we need to get right. I need to get right as a manager to be successful again."
