The Addicks crashed to their first defeat of the season against Colchester United on Tuesday night.

An own goal from Miguel Llera and two strikes from the U's on-loan Barnsley striker Kayode Odejayi made it a disappointing return to Essex for Charlton boss Phil Parkinson.

Charlton missed a host of chances in the opening period, particularly Deon Burton, as the Addicks looked in control.

However, the away side were soon made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal.

It was just before the half-hour mark that Colchester took the lead when Llera attempted to head the ball back to Charlton keeper Rob Elliot but the ball looped over his head before crossing the line.

Two minutes later Odejayi doubled the lead after racing through.

Odejayi put Charlton out of their misery when he scored his second 12 minutes into the second half.

The Addicks will now after regroup before visiting Leeds United on Saturday.
