An attack outside a nightclub has led to calls for action to be taken against the Newham venue.

The incident, in which a man was believed to be cut in the head with a broken bottle, took place on Friday night (September 11) outside the Summer Gold club.

Witnesses say the victim was chased down the street by the gang who were smashing car windows.

The man, who has since been released from hospital, collapsed yards from the club on Barking Road in Canning Town.

The attack has resulted in residents renewing their calls for it to be closed down.
Campaigner Angela Rutledge, an American who relocated to Canning Town, said: "Summer Gold has been nothing but trouble since it opened. When I moved to this area three years ago Summer Gold was a Chinese restaurant. There were no problems.

"Since this club opened we have had endless problems with noise, car break-ins and violence.

"This is crazy. Something has to be done."

It was recently revealed that police were called to the establishment 13 times between January 2007 and August this year.

Last year community organisers asked Newham Council to permanently shut down the club.

On August 13 the council's Noise Nuisance Unit called in Summer Gold's licence for review.

A hearing of the licensing sub-committee is scheduled for October 5.
The owners of Summer Gold were not available for comment.
