Victims to head to Libya in search of justice

A Survivor of the IRA's bombing of Canary Wharf is to head to Libya in the next few weeks to call on Colonel Gaddafi to give compensation.

Jonathan Ganesh is one of a group aiming to urge the Libyan leader to compensate UK victims, amid claims the country supplied the Irish terrorist group with weapons.

Jonathan, who was working as a security guard on the night in 1996 when Marsh Wall was attacked, lost friends Inam Bashir and John Jeffries in the blast, and suffered numerous injuries himself.

He said: "I want to meet Colonel Gaddafi and explain to him what his actions have done to those affected by the terror."

The group planning the trip in early October also includes victims' campaigners Willie Frazer and Michelle Williamson, MP's Jeffrey Donaldson, Nigel Dodds and Andrew Mackinlay, and lawyer Jason McCue, who recently submitted a civil writ through the US courts against Gaddafi.

Hundreds of relatives of IRA victims are on the the claim for compensation, including many injured in the Canary Wharf bombing.

Jonathan, who has decided against being on the damages writ, said: "For me this isn't about money but there are a lot of people who need compensation. Not just in Canary Wharf but across the UK."

The news comes on the back of the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi last week, which has provoked fury across the UK and America.

One of the MP's organising the trip, Mr Donaldson, said meetings were planned with the FCO and Libyan authorities next week to finalise the trip.

He added: "The response to date has been disappointing in terms of our own government and Libyan authorities, but with the early release of the Lockerbie bomber supposedly on compassionate grounds we believe it's time our victims were reimbursed for IRA terrorism."

When asked how likely it was the trip would take place, the Northern Ireland MP said the whole group were "determined to press ahead with it".

Mr McCue, who this year successfully brought civil suits against those responsible for the Omagh bombing, was equally adamant.

He said: "The trip is key. These IRA Libyan victims must not be forgotten.

"The Government cannot simply ignore them to further diplomacy and thus hang them out to dry."

Totaly agree with MIMO. If you want to point the finger of blame for IRA attacks, look no further than the USA, it was dumb, Irish catholic Americans who gave the IRA the $$$$s to buy the semtex.

The same sponsors of terror wondered why they were dead on Sept 11th 2001, but it was the same people who put money in the collecting cans in Boston and NY bars to help the boys in the old country.

I am not sure, but are you allowed to choose which terrorist you support with impunity?
