Nomura to leave Canary Wharf

Nomura looks set to leave Canary Wharf for a new home in the City.

The Japanese bank took on Lehman Brothers' space at 25 Bank Street when it snapped up the UK arm of the stricken bank in October. But it is now in exclusive talks to move into the upcoming Watermark Place development.

Nomura has 3,600 employees in the UK, including the 2,000 former Lehman Brothers staff it took on following the buy-out last year. Rumours have been circulating for several months that Nomura favoured the City over the Wharf, and sources reported back in November that the company favoured "a City focus above anywhere else". Nomura International's executive vice-chairman Sadeq Sayeed (pictured) is known to favour a move.

The company has not yet made an official statement on the deal.
