» The next superfood?

It may have escaped most people's attention but Saturday is national cherry day when the small but perfectly formed fruit has its moment in the sun.

To mark the occasion a new fruit juice, called Cherrygood, has hit the supermarket shelves.

Made from Montmorency cherries, hand picked in Michigan in the USA, Cherrygood is available in original cherry or cherry and berry flavours - the latter being a blend of cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry.

Cherries are being hailed as the new superfood and have been proven to contain higher levels of antioxidants than many other juices.

Cherrygood is available now from Waitrose, Tesco and most other supermarkets, priced from £1.39.

Barbecue weather? We'll wait and see. In the meantime, as we polish up our grills and sharpen our sausages, we might have a quick dip into website simplybeefandlamb.co.uk.

The site has just launched a search tool that reveals legal outdoor barbecue locations in England. This follows a (curious) survey which said 80 per cent of people would like to barbecue away from home, but didn't know where.

IN SEASON

Blackberries: These do not receive emails or goad you for leaving work early but good old antioxidant rich rubus fruticosus is best eaten fresh from the bramble, with purple chops, scuffed knees and a dock leaf to tend to those pesky nettles.
