Delving into the history of 10cc, a band named after the average amount of semen ejaculated by a man, is a business fraught with complexity.

The art-rock outfit has so many different line-ups, side-projects and associated acts that trying to work out the fundamental ingredient that ties the music together is pretty much impossible.

But in this day of musical reformation it's almost enough to say that here is a band who formed in the 70s and is now on tour with at least one founder member to promote a greatest hits album. It's not authentic, but what is?

If you're going to base your assessment of a music group on sales alone, the Boyz are the most successful male R'n'B group of all time.

The group sold more than 60million albums and broke all kinds of records for singles during their '90s heyday.

Originally a quintet, the band have won more Grammys than its reasonable to shake a stick at and continue to generate smooth sounds and vast amounts of cash for the music industry.

Despite the departure of two founder members, fans should find much to enjoy when they hit North Greenwich to perform their hits.

TALK
North-West Passage, National Maritime Museum

dd-jun4-NWweb.jpg

This lecture series, which has been conceived to run alongside the museum's exhibition of the same name, comprises five morning sessions for those keen to learn more about the North-West Passage.

Audiences can expect to hear all the gory details of expeditions to the area and how navigators such as James Cook and Alejandro Malaspina were misled by the fanciful maps of speculative cartographers.

With titles such as An Expedition Too Far, The Gates Of Hell and Voyages Of Delusion, there's much here to educate and entertain beyond the exhibits.

June 4-July2, 11am-1pm, £8 (£6) per lecture, 020 8858 4422, nmm.ac.uk, DLR: Cutty Sark
