ROCK
Farm, Dinosaur Jr
4/5
IN A NUTSHELL
A familiar brew from US guitar rockers Dinosaur Jr, but the old recipe still hits the spot.
REVIEW
Just because the wagon keeps rolling, it doesn't mean it's going somewhere better.
Dinosaur Jr have playing at the crossroads of alternative, punk and indie since the '80s. After a rough break-up, they set up shop on that corner again in 2005 with Beyond, and went straight back to winning people over with exactly the same trick they played before.
Farm essentially stirs up the same sound that inspired fans such as Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, with J Mascis' growling hum and squealing guitar bonding with thick chord runs and brain-scratching catchy tunes.
Poppy single Over It and jagged head-knockers such as Pieces and Your Weather wouldn't be out of place on one of their albums twenty years ago. But there's no shame in being an expert at crafting pyramids just because no one wants to build one on Kensington High Street.
