Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Scotland
£1.59 (£1.99 rrp)

IN A NUTSHELL
An alluring alternative to summer's other pale orange alcoholic drinks, which holds its own until at least midway through the second pint.

REVIEW
The next time you're planning on sampling lashings of ginger beer, why not try something that would send the Famous Five giddy?

Waitrose has a special introductory offer on Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer, a four-per-cent concoction by the Glasgow ginger wine-makers.

A 500ml bottle will cost £1.59, as opposed to the regular £1.99.

While boasting the disconcerting orange hue of Magners cider, Crabbie's is less likely to leave you feeling like you've consumed rustic drain cleaner.

The additional of alcohol adds extra body to the familiar ginger beer zing, and holds its own in the novelty stakes until at least around halfway through the second pint.

A reasonably enjoyable alternative for those summer drinkers who require everything served fizzy and chilled with a slice of lemon.

The store will also be lopping 25 per cent off many of its ciders as the hot weather rolls in, allowing drinkers to enjoy an affordable apple drink that doesn't come in a plastic two-litre bottle.
