Jim Fitzpatrick becomes DEFRA minister

Poplar and Canning Town MP Jim Fitzpatrick has moved from transport to agriculture.

The former firefighter arrives at DEFRA following the resignation of Jane Kennedy, who left after she was unable to confirm her support for embattled Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Mr Fitzpatrick - who was elected to the seat in 1997 - is the fifth farming minister in as many years. He became the parliamentary under secretary for the Department of Transport in 2007, after serving as Minister for London.

To have 5 ministers in as many years just illustrates how little regard this government has for rural England and our agricultural industry.

The EU has agreed with this government that UK does not need farming, it can buy all its food from the EU. Tony Blair said as much in a speech about six years ago.
They have destroyed our fishing industry and are well on the way to destroying our farming.
When Brown takes us into the EU as he undoubtedly plans, against the will of the British people, we will be reliant on our food supplies from Europe and will therefore find it almost impossible to leave.
