» Taste for Tex-Mex

Pining for Tex-Mex now that Chili's has gone? Well, Wharfers craving a chimichanga and refried beans will need to mount a steed for their fill.

Desperadoes, in Church Street, Greenwich, brings Mexican and tapas to within only a few DLR stops away while the popular Mexican chain Chiquito boasts an outlet in Barking (if that's the sort of thing you boast about).

For lone rangers, the Cactus Pit is in Royal Parade, Blackheath, and the Tortilla is in Southwark Street, SE1.

» Treat under £2

If the sweet tooth twinges, Eat. is offering this banoffee pie for £1.85. Gooey enough for those whose sweet tooth bit the dust when they last ate a whole pack of Refreshers but with a biscuit base for those who can still boast a full array of working gnashers.

» Oil be back

Filippo Berio has relaunched it Special Selection Virgin Olive Oil. The oil has a ripe fruity flavour and a peppery finish and is ideal for drizzling over new vegetables, pasta, meat or salad. It is available from Tesco at £4.99.

IN SEASON...

LAMB: Cow is beef, deer is venison, pig is ham but lamb is just lamb. So there's no hiding the fact that little woolly thing you petted at that farm is on your plate. But British lamb is hard to beat as a flavour-texture combo.

Lamb is good source of zinc, iron and B vitamins but that's the science. Lamb is rich in garlic and herbs if that's what you roast it with.
