GIG
Enrique Iglesias, The O2 arena

The son of legendary singer Julio Iglesias, Enrique was keen to succeed on merit rather than via nepotism and was originally signed to Mexican indie label Fonovisa using the surname Martinez, having pretended to be an unknown Guatemalan singer.

He rose to become the most successful Spanish language artist of his generation before switching to English and signing a $48million contract with Universal.

He has sold more than 60million albums worldwide and comes to The O2 as part of the promotional tour for his Greatest Hits record.

MUSIC
Abba Mania, The Indigo2

As Anna, Benny, Bjorn and Agnetha are no longer performing together there is an argument that says the world needs a tribute act to reproduce their works faithfully for the thousands of fans who will never have the chance to see the original.

It may be an urban myth, but apparently sales of Abba's music soar when economic times are bad, presumably due to its feisty up-beat vibe.

So if you're looking to get over a redundancy, forget your hopeless sales figures or simply enjoy Scandinavian pop classics it might well be time to head on over to North Greenwich for a bit of Super Trouper.

STAGE
Two Plays For Gaza, Hackney Empire

dd-may14-BennWEBB.jpg

This double-bill is being held in support of Gaza Music School and Stop The War Coalition.

Introduced by Tony Benn, pictured, and with music from Reem Kelani, the event will feature performances of the 10-minute play Seven Jewish Children, written by Caryl Churchill about Gaza, and The Trainer by David Wilson and Anne Aylor.

The latter explores a love story between a British Jew and his Palestinian fiancee interwoven with the tale of a composer who is accused of glorifying terrorism and goes bankrupt as a result. Described as an eclectic, contemporary drama, the show uses various media to tell its story.

EVENT
A Night In Space, National Maritime Museum

It's all about ice in the depths of the freezing cosmos.

This space-themed evening of events, where visitors get exclusive access to the Royal Observatory's galleries, offers an opportunity to find out about the role ice plays in the Solar System, with the first screening of Ice Worlds in the museum's planitarium.

The show looks at the importance of ice on Earth, Mars and the frozen moons of Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune.

As well as free astronomy workshops, costumed actors will also be on hand to tell the story of the The Royal Observatory and its place in Greenwich.

May 16, 5pm-8pm, £6 (£4) 020 8858 4422, nmm.ac.uk, DLR: Cutty Sark
