New smile for Grand National Winner

It is often said your smile is your first impression.

For Grand National winner Liam Treadwell, this was all too true when presenter Claire Balding pointed out his imperfect teeth on live television.

Liam said: "To be honest it went straight over my head. I'd just won the greatest race in the world so I wasn't really bothered about it."

Limehouse-based dental practice UltraSmile was quick to offer to fix 23-year-old Liam's teeth for free.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, the jump jockey dropped into the practice on Friday to begin treatment. The work is scheduled to take around a year and will include whitening, veneers and implants.

Liam said: "I'm not conscious of my teeth. I'm happy to do whatever, as long as it fits around my training. UltraSmile has been very positive and helpful here."

For Liam his big win is still to sink in. He said: "At the time it was a real blur. It was such a surreal feeling. I was just hoping to get round in one piece."

He was so sure he would have nothing to celebrate, he only invited fiancee Emily Warner to watch him from trackside.

Liam said: "I told my parents not to bother coming. They were at home. My mum wouldn't have been watching anyway. She gets too nervous."

For now it is business as usual. Liam said: "I've been really busy racing since then. It's back to the day job, racing most days. It's what I love, what I do. You're only as good as your last race."

Clinical director Dr Thang Nghiem, who is creating Liam's new smile, said: "Liam did his research and he chose to come with us. Apparently he was inundated and we are very grateful he chose us."

Ultrasmile is offering complimentary check-ups on May 30 as part of National Smile Month. Appointments can be made from May 18 and are limited. Telephone 08452 300 800 or go to ultrasmile.co.uk.
