Newham councillors have voted unanimously to approve an outline planning application for a 280 room hotel at the Excel centre.

The decision was made after an agreement was reached between the council and Excel on its financial contributions to the community.

That will see Excel pay £120,000 towards skills training and £80,000 towards transport improvements.

The outline design by architects Jestico and Whiles shows an 11-storey curved building situated east of the entertainment centre.

See The Wharf next week for reaction.
