Man jailed for torture in Tower Hamlets

A Brazilian man illegally in the UK has been sent to prison for six years after torturing a woman.
Andre Scoz fled when the 32-year-old victim was found naked, bound and covered in burns after falling from a second floor window in East India Dock Road last April.
Police later tracked Scoz to Kent four months after the attack.
Detective Superintendent Sandra Looby, head of Tower Hamlets CID, said: "The victim was tortured and seriously wounded, leaving her physically and psychologically scarred.
"In this case the suspect tried to evade capture by using false names and re-establishing himself in another area.
"It is important that the community are aware that the Metropolitan Police Service will take every opportunity to trace such men of violence and bring them to justice."
The victim's condition is slowly improving but police say she will never fully recover.
Scoz, who had overstayed his visa, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday.
He will serve a minimum of six years before he can be considered for release.
An application has also been made for him to be deported.
