Flags of the Hat
Rosey Dees

4/5

"The Dees have added minor chords to their early catalogue of comic songs, but they're still at their best when they're weaving tales."

If you drunkenly picked up a glockenspiel at a south east London house party a few years ago, you could have had a hand in the birth of the Rosey Dees.

The five-piece emerged from late-night jam sessions with odd instruments in a flat near Greenwich, tarred with an off-hand bounciness, which is eccentric as well as poppy.

Much of debut album Flags Of The Hat clatters along like a barrel tumbling down a hill, a warm tangle of rich harmonies, shimmering guitars and lyrical anecdotes.

Wasted is a familiar, catchy and quotable ditty about a guy that's spent too many days in the bar, while Blood is a more soothing and vulnerable brew.

The Dees have added minor chords to their early catalogue of comic songs, but they're still at their best when they're weaving tales.

Bull & Gate gig should be good - I saw them there last year and it was OFF. THE. HOOK.
