Michael Jackson to do 50 O2 shows

aa-mar12-mj3.jpgMichael Jackson will now be performing 50 shows at The O2 after more dates were added this afternoon.

The King of Pop's London shows, the last he said he would do in the capital, will now see him in residence at the arena between July 8 and February 24 next year - and there could be more to come.

The extra shows have been added in response to the huge clamour for tickets, which go on public sale at 7am tomorrow.

Over one million people will now have the chance to see the 50-year-old perform, and it looks like all the shows will sell out.

It means The O2 will set a whole tranche of new records as it confirms its status as the world's premier music venue.

It will be the biggest audience ever to see an artist in one city, the most amount of people to attend a series of arena shows and the fastest ticket sales in history.

Three-quarters of a million people in the UK alone have bought their tickets through the pre-sale and fans have been camped out at The O2 since last night awaiting the public sale.

Randy Phillips, president of AEG Live, said: "Not only are these concerts unparalleled, these records will never be broken.

"We knew this was show business history, but this is a cultural phenomenon."

It looks like being a thriller.
