Newham Council has revealed street closures around the Excel Centre in preparation for the London Summit.

The Connaught Bridge will be closed from 6am until midnight, while roads at the western end of Excel, including Western Gateway, Seagull Lane, Sandstone Lane and Tidal Basin Road, will also be shut.

The Royal Victoria Dock bridge will also be closed, as well as the bridge from Custom House DLR to Excel and routes from Royal Victoria DLR.

Residents at the western end of the Excel will have to undergo searching and go through screening equipment to get to their homes between Tuesday and Thursday.

It was earlier revealed by Transport for London that Custom House, Prince Regent and Royal Victoria DLR stations will be closed.

However, the council says a decision is yet to be made on Royal Victoria.

Meanwhile, the council says it will do its utmost to make sure it does not pay for post-summit cleaning.

The statement reads: "Should there be any protest activity, we are determined that neither residents nor the council have to pick up the tab for clearing up after the summit."

Complete contempt is being shown for all of us who live and work in the area. They seem to forget we still have to go to work, and might like to have a social life. The station closures smack of a police state - what are they going to achieve? We were here before Excel - how dare they treat us like this?

It's just awful! I work in Canary Wharf area and my staff are just scared to come to work on Wed and Thurs because of this "planned" demonstrations!! It's 8 million of wasted money for this police operation and people still feel unsafe!! Another thing that people are just afraid of coming to work because they just don't know if it would be possible to get back home!! it is so unrespectful to odinary people - the leaders of G20 who are actually resposible for the current financial disaster are treated like really important people but what about odinary people who still have to get to work to earn money to eat ???
