Evelyn Glennie, The Indigo2
IContinuing its Classic FM series, the Indigo2 welcomes percussionist Evelyn Glennie.
We all know she’s the first drum-botherer to be able to sustain a full-time career as a soloist and that she is profoundly deaf.
But neither of these unique selling points are reasons to go and see her perform.
This is a must-see gig simply because of Glennie’s uncanny musical abilities and a capacity for constant reinvention and experimentation.
Here she appears with beatboxer Shlomo. It’s an unconventional collaboration, which ought to be right up Glennie’s street.

Il Divo, The O2 arena

Wild about manufactured pop groups aiming to immitate the sound of the three tenors and Andrea Bocelli?
Then Il Divo at The O2 could well be for you.
Put together by reality TV svengali Simon Cowell, the group’s blend of light classical and well-known ballads has proved a massive commercial success.
The four singers, who perform in Latin, English, Italian, Spanish and French have led a stellar assault on the world’s charts scoring No.1 hits in multiple countries.
Not too surprising really when you find out the band’s Italian name translates as “the star.

Freddie Jackson, The Indigo2

If you’re looking to stimulate your soul you could do worse than head for the Ulitimate Boogie Night.
Soul singer Freddie Jackson’s smooth grooves are all set to hit the UK for the first time in more than a decade.
And the romantic crooner is appearing just a stone’s throw from the Wharf at the Indigo2.
Harlem raised, Freddie was trained as a gospel singer before taking the Devil’s shilling and switching to the soul clubs.
With a back catalogue of 11 No.1 singles and 15 albums, his performance is sure to bring back a few memories from the ’80s and the ’90s

EVENT
An Evening with The Stars, National Maritime Museum

Want to talk about the stars and sound like Patrick Moore?
Let’s face it, who wouldn’t? But gaining such knowledge often involves tiresome grappling with complex texts that leave one baffled rather than enlightened.
Fortunately, as part of the International Year of Astronomy, the Royal Observatory at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich is holding a series of observation evenings to inform and excite heaven-gazers.
This week’s event takes a look at Venus and the Moon in the 6.30pm session, followed by Saturn in the following shows.
March 3, 6.30pm, 7.30pm, 8.30pm, FREE, 020 8858 4422, nmm.ac.uk, DLR: Cutty Sark
