Transfer window round-up

WestHam.gifThe transfer window creaked shut a little later than advertised last night, giving West Ham, Charlton and Millwall extra time to strike some deals.

West Ham finalised the loan of Calum Davenport to Sunderland, yet another deal in a busy month, despite manager Gianfranco Zola's dislike of the transfer window.

Davenport signed for the Black Cats last night until the end of the season.

The lanky centre-half had fallen out with Zola and had been frozen out of the first-team squad in recent weeks.

The most surprising move came over the weekend when Julien Faubert was loaned to Spanish giants Real Madrid for the rest of the season.

The Hammers received a £1.5million fee for the 25-year-old Frenchman, and could net a further £6million if the move is made permanent.

Not a bad return on the £6.1million the Irons spent on a player who has failed to impress in his 18-month stay in London.

Czech midfielder Radoslav Kovac joined on loan from Spartak Moscow to add cover in midfield following the departure of Hayden Mullins to Portsmouth.

The 29-year-old can also play in defence and first team coach Steve Clarke believes Kovac will be a useful addition.

He said: "He is an experienced player, a Czech Republic international, passes the ball well, which we like. He is not a forward going player, he is more defensive, but he gives us good balance to the squad.

"We have lost a few players in the window, so it is nice to bring one in."

CharltonCrest1.jpgCharlton, still deep in relegation trouble, signed a couple of new recruits to try and bolster their survival hopes, although no new faces arrived at the Valley yesterday.

Tresor Kandol - fresh from a loan stint at Millwall - signed from Leeds last week, on loan until May 3 to give Phil Parkinson more attacking options.

He was joined by Darren Ward, also a loanee, who arrived at the Valley from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Midfielder Tom Soares, once of Crystal Palace, moved from Stoke City to Charlton on a month's loan last Friday.

All three played for the Addicks at Burnley on Saturday but could not prevent Charlton slipping to a 2-1 defeat.

millwall.gifMillwall, hit by injuries to key players Lewis Grabban and Paul Robinson, also made a foray into the transfer market.

Defender Richard Duffy jumped ship from Portsmouth on deadline day to join Millwall on a free transfer.

Duffy, who can play right back or centre half, has 13 international caps for Wales, and has completed loan spells at Burnley, Coventry and Swansea since signing for the south coast club in 2004.

The 23-year-old will provide cover for injured skipper Robinson, who could be out for up to 10 weeks with a broken foot.

Lions' striker Adrian Forbes has moved from Millwall to Grimsby Town on loan until May.
