The arrival of the G20 in Docklands looks likely to spark a host of protests across the capital.

World leaders are attending the London Summit in Excel on April 2 to discuss the global economic crisis following invitations from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Plans by protest groups are already in place for a number of demonstrations to show dissatisfaction over environmental, social and economic issues.

One of the tactics threatened to be deployed is to bang on the doors of the Excel Centre, while the summit is taking place.

Supt David Hartshorn, head of London’s public order policing branch, told the Guardian newspaper: “We’ve got G20 coming and I think that is being advertised on some of the sites as the highlight of what they see as a ‘summer of rage’.

The first demonstration is being organised by Put People First on March 28 in London.

The group reports on its website it is arguing for a fair distribution of wealth, jobs for all and a low carbon future.

The Socialist Worker has added its backing to this event saying it will kick off “a week of protests.

At midday on April 1 a group called G20 Meltdown has urged followers to “reclaim the City and head to the Bank of England offices.

The following day, to coincide with the summit, the group intend to disrupt the meeting at Excel.

The website states: “We’re going to bang on their hotel doors at the Excel Centre to deliver our message of a world beyond capitalism.
