Jermaine Beckford's brace secured a win for Leeds against promotion challengers Millwall - but the striker was lucky to be on the pitch after seeming to elbow keeper David Forde in the face.

Beckford escaped with a yellow card after clattering Forde in the chin during the second half.

Leeds closed to within two points of The Lions thanks to strikes on 32 minutes and in second half stoppage time, but the away side could have been ahead on 23 minutes were it not for a frantic goal line stand.

Gary Alexander met David Martin's long cross at the far post, but his effort was blocked by keeper Casper Ankergren. The ball then banged off a post before being cleared, but Millwall insisted it had crossed the line.

Their situation worsened on 32 minutes when Robert Snodgrass fed Beckford on the edge of the box, and the front-man cut in and swung a shot into the top left corner.

Alexander and Martin both tested the keeper as Millwall pushed for an equaliser, but it was Beckford that stole the attention yet again on 65 minutes. Following some barging in the six-yard box, he appeared to swing an elbow into Forde's face, inflicting cuts and bruising on the stopper.

While Millwall fans could justifiably argue that Beckford should not have been on the pitch by the end, he made his presence felt in the second minute of stoppage time, crashing home a second to erase any lingering hopes of a Lions comeback.
