A teenager attempted to hit a Tesco cashier with a charity tin when he was refused cigarettes.

The suspect tried to make the purchase from the Millharbour branch at 3.35pm on Sunday, January 25, but was turned away on the grounds he was underage.

He then became violent and abusive, and after attempting the attack with the tin, he headbutted the 22-year-old employee.

After the Tesco worker forced him from the store, he returned minutes later with another man, wielding a stick or bat and a knife.

They fled when they realised the police had been called. The cashier sustained a cut lip and finger in the attack.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5'6", 17, with light brown hair, wearing a grey hooded tracksuit top and bottoms, and black trainers with a white trimmed sole.

His companion was a black male, 5'8", 20 years old, wearing a black zip-up top and blue jeans.
