Back a Grand National long-shot this weekend

NigelSeeley125WEB.jpgNigel Seeley - the Wizard of Odds - gives his tips on where to place your bets this week, backing Chelsea and a Grand National long-shot.

What can I say? Luck, form and everything else is against us in 2009 and it's about time we had a change for the better or I'm seriously going to give the game up.

Last weekend Swansea totally outplayed Fulham in the FA Cup but only managed a draw while West Ham left it late against Middlesbrough and also drew. And don't mention Everton v Villa.

Things are not looking good but, for those of you who have just starting reading this column, last year we went through a similar disastrous run and managed to end the year over £250 up.

In runs like this you can either give up and go into hiding or believe in yourself and try to turn it around little by little. We are going for the second option.

This weekend's big Premier League match is the vital clash between Champions' League-chasing Aston Villa and fading giants Chelsea.

New manager Gus Hiddink takes charge of Chelsea for the first time following Phil Scolari's departure and defeat will signal the end of their title aspirations.

Villa are the in-form team in the Premier League, undefeated in 14 matches, but last weeks 3-1 FA Cup reverse at Everton showed signs of cracks in a small squad.

The same starting XI has featured in the majority of games and, with a UEFA Cup game against CSKA Moscow today followed by Chelsea's visit on Saturday the Villans should be opposed.

Compare that to Chelsea's preparation: a 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday and seven days to work with the new coach on the Cobham training ground, so the 11/8 about a Blues' win has to be snapped up.

Saturday's big race is the Racing Post chase at Kempton Park and legendary punter Harry Findlay has a great chance of a second successive win with Big Fella Thanks.

Findlay has put his money where his mouth is and has backed the horse from 6/1 to 3/1. Bookies face a six figure pay-out if the horse obliges.

Following the withdrawals of Can't Buy Time and Madison Du Beralais this horse is a leading chance for April's Grand National at 20/1. If he wins on Saturday expect those odds to halve.

Running Total: -£360

Suggested Bets:

£20 Chelsea to beat Aston Villa @ 11/8

£20 Big Fella Thanks to win the Racing Post Chase @ 3/1

£10 Big Fella Thanks to win the Grand National @ 20/1
