Woolwich warms up with a party

Woolwich will host a scene of celebration this weekend to mark a new DLR station and other regeneration initiatives due to take place.
The Royal Artillery band will march through the town centre launching the free event between 11am and 1pm on Saturday.
It is being held to celebrate a number of plans which include two new town squares, a Crossrail station, more shops and more than 4,500 homes.
Greenwich Council’s deputy leader Cllr Peter Brooks said: “Woolwich has already seen considerable investment in facilities and in the environment. There are further projects on the way that will deliver real improvements.
“Transport improvements will help give a real boost to the area – with the new DLR link set to be followed by the Waterfront Transit service and Crossrail.
“Together with the riverboat, these services will help increase local employment and give residents easier access to other jobs.
