Wharf gyms prepare for January influx

After piling on the pounds due to festive overindulgence, the urge to get rid of unwanted bulge is back.
So what is the wisest way for Wharfers to get back in shape? For the frugal among us in these troubled times there are plenty of offers out there.
The Power Studio at Millharbour has been offering half-price work-outs. Up until January 16 all sessions will be reduced to £10.
It is also offering specials on monthly members club and winter deals.
Reebok Sports Club at Canada Square is wooing customers by not charging a joining admin fee for new members in January and February. It also has £50 referral vouchers for anyone who introduces a friend to the club.
And while a recent report says about a third of those signing up for fitness deals will rarely use their membership, Reebok is not expecting Wharf members to be joining on a whim.
Sales and marketing manager Diane Kay said: “The thing about the Canary Wharf population is they are very active and when they decide to do something they carry on through with it.
"And since the financial crisis, usage has actually gone up as people look to get better value.
Meanwhile, Virgin Active has not got any New Year offers running as it says its membership fees ensure quality gym equipment.
