Tony Craig and Marc Laird struck second half goals as Millwall kept up the pressure on the League One leaders.

A 2-0 win at Hereford - coupled with dropped points by Leicester City and MK Dons - left the Lions in a promising position after Tuesday's match.

Millwall now sit 11 points behind leaders Leicester and trail the Dons by one, but have two games in hand and a strong run of form since the turn of the year.

Following the weekend FA cup exit at Hull City, manager Kenny Jackett made one change to his lineup, bringing in Gary Alexander for Neil Harris up front. But it was Hereford that made the first serious attack on goal on seven minutes, as Andrew Williams drove a low strike off the outside of the post. And Williams was thwarted by Tony Craig as he shaped to shoot a few minutes later after a bursting run.

Lewis Grabban's low cross was cleared on 32 minutes after good work from Andy Frampton and Izale McLeod, and Hereford goalkeeper Craig Samson flung himself across goal to save the youngster's shot just afterwards.

Harris came off the bench at around the hour mark in a bid to break the stalemate, and it was the record-breaking striker that played Grabban clear. The attacker's cross was cleared for a corner, and Tony Craig nodded David Martin's delivery into the back of the net with a looping header.

Grabban and Harris were both close to adding another shortly afterwards with powerful drives, but Jennison Myrie-Williams could have put the home side on level terms had he kept his short-range header on target.

A second Millwall goal arrived in injury time, as Harris again played Grabban in to blast a shot at Samson. The keeper parried, but the ball broke kindly for Laird to head home from inside the six yard box.

The Lions will play promotion rivals Scunthorpe United at home on Saturday with spirits high. Elsewhere on Tuesday, Leicester were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Brighton, while MK Dons lost 2-1 to Leyton Orient on their own turf.
