Goals from Nathan Tyson and Rob Earnshaw fired Nottingham Forest to victory against a Charlton side whose winless run stretches to 18 games.

It was hard on the Addicks who should have been ahead well before then but for some wasteful finishing.

Manager Phil Parkinson decided to start with Jonjo Shelvey behind striker Deon Burton for the second match running.

It was Shelvey who ran the first twenty minutes and twice put through Burton for good opportunities.

The first was hit wide by Burton and the second was saved by Forest stopper Paul Smith who came rushing off his line to meet Burton.

Burton's failures were punished by Forest soon after.

On 34 minutes Charlton's new signing Graeme Murty and captain Mark Hudson both went for the same cross and the loose ball fell for Tyson who shot past keeper Rob Elliot.

Just two minutes later the lead was doubled as Matt Holland's header back fell short and Earnshaw held off Hudson to lob the ball over Elliot into the empty net.

It was to be Forest's only two worthy attempts on goal but up the other end Charlton could not find a way past Smith.

The Forest keeper made good a good save from Shelvey at the end of the first period.

In the second half Charlton heads began to drop as time ticked by.

Apart from a number of corners, the Addicks could not cause Forest any major problems until the last minute when Smith saved spectacularly from Darren Ambrose.

The defeat leaves Charlton rooted to the bottom of the Championship. Their next match is the FA Cup replay to Norwich City on Tuesday night.
