Review: Moose Bar at the Ice Rink

You’ve probably seen the return of the Canary Wharf Ice Rink, but have you dropped into Canadian themed watering hole The Moose Bar?
Complete with moose head on the wall, roaring fire and leather Chesterfields, this mock log cabin bar and diner is a welcome retreat from the biting chill winds that have descended on Canary Wharf.
Just as inviting as the venue, is the bar’s food menu. The house specialty is an amazing range of sausages cooked on a specially designed grill – an innovative Swiss machine owned by Neil Allen, whose company is based in Borough Market.
The smokeless barbecue machine, which grills food on a rotisserie, has been brought in to feed the hordes of hungry ice skaters.
On the menu is a smorgasbord of traditional and more quirky flavoured sausages, plus lamb and chicken kebabs and, for vegetarians, queso quada, a Brazilian hard cheese. The latter has been chosen because it’s the only cheese that can stay on the grill for four-and-a-half minutes – the rotation time of the machine.
But really it’s about the sausages. Quality sausages that are served in some of the capital’s finest restaurants, including The Ivy.
Until February 22, The Moose Bar will be serving 10 regular flavours plus daily specials. The regulars will include The Londoner, a sausage made from spicy chorizo; The merguez, a beef, lamb, cinnamon and chilli option – a real explosion of taste – and The Wild Boar And Chimay Beer sausage.
All are served in either a tortano roll or with mash and real gravy. Prices start from £4 for three Swiss sausages in a roll with various condiments to £10 for a sausage platter, an assortment of bangers served with a selection of mustards and pickles, olives, devils on horseback and baby beetroots, with a sliced hot freshly baked loaf.
What are you waiting for? Go and get your ice skates on.

Rubbish bar and rubbish review.
Nice to see a concise constructive comment being made, what a loser.
I went to the Moose last thursday and thought it was great. Had an accoustic guy playing, who was good, awesome mulled cider and a really warm, log cabin, christmas feel. I really liked it. Makes a change from all the chain dross around here.
Finally, a bar that screams orginality. Aspalls mulled cider and a sausage or two surely hits the spot for me.
It's a simple place with a nice, cosy "log cabin" feel. We've been there almost daily for the last week. The Moosehead beer is great, you don't have to wait long to get served, there are comfy lounges near the heaters, the sausages are good if you are peckish, and it's not jam packed...It's not the most glamourous place, but that's part of the charm. I'm not sure what we'll do when it's gone.
This place is great. My only comment is there was no Bon Jovi playing. I love that guy
